If you need support with a drinking problem:
AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) has local meetings as well as an online intergroup
It is a 12-step program, with a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from alcoholism. Most meetings will welcome those who aren’t doing the 12 steps, so don’t feel like you have to avoid it if you don’t want to do the 12 steps.
has in-person meetings in many cities, as well as online. It uses cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based techniques to help individuals overcome addiction.
is a secular group that fosters a sense of personal responsibility and empowers individuals to take control of their recovery. This was my personal favorite for practical check-ins and no hard-luck stories, and meetings almost every hour.
A huge online community, 24/7 support. This isn’t a program, but sometimes you may just need to check in with others.
A program for women, focused on empowerment, positive reinforcement, self-esteem, and emotional growth.
